Academic Technology Services is pleased to offer free workshops as part of an ongoing Technology Workshop series. These workshops are intended to enhance knowledge and skills of CSUCI employees and organizations in the use of academic and web-related technology.

Workshop Descriptions

Web Accessibility I

Prerequisites: None. A working knowledge of HTML is helpful.
Description: Introduction concept of accessibility as it applies to web content; overview of accessibility law including Section 508; assistive technologies; review of each Section 508 checkpoint. Workshop will demonstrate repair of a non-accessible web site.

Intro to Web Content Management with Collage

Prerequisites: Successful completion of "Web Accessibility I" workshop
Description: Collage is a web-based content management system that is used to create and maintain web sites on www.csuci.edu. Course covers general use of Collage for creating and maintaining web pages including system setup, logging on, editing existing pages, creating new pages, adding images and links, uploading and linking to external files, preview, approval, and publishing to web servers.

Creating Accessible Word Documents

Prerequisites: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
Description: How to create an accessible Microsoft Word document; how to create well-structured documents using images, headings/styles, lists, tables; pros and cons of using Microsoft Word format, PDFs, and HTML; how to check accessibility; how to repair inaccessible documents.

Accessible PDFs I

Prerequisites: Successful completion of  "Creating Accessible Word Documents" workshop.
Description: When to use PDF format; how to create a PDF from an accessible Word document; checking & fixing reading order; checking accessibility of PDF files; a workflow for ensuring continued accessibility.

Accessible PDFs II (PDF Forms)

Prerequisites: Successful completion of  "Accessible PDFs I" workshop.
Description: Creating accessible, fillable PDF forms; when to use PDF forms; comparison to Office and HTML forms.

Creating Accessible PowerPoint Presentations

Prerequisites: Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint.
Description: How to create an accessible Microsoft PowerPoint presentation; how to make images & multimedia in PowerPoints accessible; how to use third party tools such as LecShare and the LK4 Wizard to convert presentations into web pages.

Using Wimba Classroom in Blackboard

Wimba is an online collaboration tool that integrates with Blackboard that allows instructors and students to engage in meaningful and memorable interactions by combining interactive technologies with instructional best practices. The major features include:

  • Real time interaction between instructors and students with audio and video
  • Presentation archiving for synchronous use
  • Instant messaging for public and private
  • Electronic whiteboard
  • Application sharing
  • Polls, quizzes and surveys

How To Register 

Advance registration is required to attend any Technology Workshop. Space is limited, and is provided to registrants on a first-come, first-served basis. Workshop format is typically presentation plus hands-on workshop. Some workshops have prerequisites; please review the "Workshop Descriptions" section of this document.

The deadline for workshop registration is 12:00pm on the business day before the workshop you wish to attend.

To register: please complete the requested information on the Technology Workshops Registration page. You will receive a confirmation email of your enrollment within 8 hours. Web Services reserves the right to cancel any workshop if minimum enrollments are not met within 3 business days of workshop.
