A financial statement must show that the student has the cost of living and studying at CSUCI for two semesters in deposit at a financial institution in the U.S. or foreign country. The date on the financial affadavit must be no more than four months when received by the Extended Education Office. The cost of living and studying at CSUCI for two semesters is shown above.

  • A sponsor is a person willing to financially support the student while he or she is studying at CSUCI. The sponsor must submit a letter indicating their willingness to support the student, signed and dated by the sponsor. On-campus jobs

International students may work on campus up to 20 hours per week during the semester and up to 40 hours per week during winter/spring break and summer. To find out about on-campus jobs, please visit the CSUCI Career Development Services website. F-1 visa students are only eligible for on-campus jobs that are non-work study. Work Study jobs are a part of the federal financial aid program. In order to work on campus, international students must have a social security number before starting the job. The Center for International Affairs can assist students in applying for social security cards after the student has obtained a written job offer from the on-campus employer. It may take several weeks for the U.S. Social Security Administration to issue the student a social security card which is required before starting the on-campus job. Remember, F-1 students may not work off campus without proper authorization from the Center for International Affairs.  Once you are admitted to the University, please attend the orientation to obtain more information regarding applying for on campus jobs.  International students must be enrolled in order to obtain on campus jobs.

This agreement is on the bottom of the financial statement or the CSUCI International Student Application. It must be signed by the applicant.

After admission to CSUCI, students must purchase medical health insurance through the CSUCI designated health insurance company, Wells Fargo: https://www.csuhealthlink.com/

Students must have medical health insurance before registering for classes. If you have purchased the CSUCI sponsored health insurance policy, it will be automatically reported to CSUCI Registrar's Office.  For government sponsored students who have their own medical health insurance, after the Center for International Affairs Office has reviewed the affidavit from the student's insurance provider, the student will be able to register for courses. Please allow 10 business days for this review.

Immunizations

Measles and Rubella:

All new and readmitted students born after January 1, 1957 must provide proof of immunization against measles and rubella prior to enrollment. This is usually given in a combination shot called "MMR." Bring your medical documentation (immunization record, medical record, etc.) to the Student Health Center (SHC) and we will verify your immunization and clear any registration holds. If you haven't had the injection or can't locate your records you can receive the vaccination at no charge at the SHC. Appointments are usually not needed.

Hepatitis B:

All new students who are 18 years of age or younger at the start of their first term at a CSU campus must provide proof of full immunization against Hepatitis B before enrolling. Full immunization against Hepatitis B consists of three timed doses of vaccine over a minimum 4-6 months. Bring your immunization record to the Student Health Center and we will verify your immunization and clear any registration holds. If you have not had the injections they are available at no charge for students 18 years of age or younger. There is a charge for the immunization if you are 19 or older. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a registration hold. CSU Channel Islands Student Health Center has more information about immunizations.

After you are admitted

Admitted students will receive an acceptance packet in the mail from the Center for International Affairs. This will include your Immigration Form I-20, which you must use to apply for your F-1 student visa at the U.S. Consulate/Embassy in the city or country where you are presently living. To locate the U.S. Consulate nearest you, visit the U.S. Department of State website for locations. If you have been accepted by several U.S. colleges or universities, do not apply for your F-1 student visa until you decide which institution you want to attend. Please only use the CSUCI I-20 form to apply for a visa and enter the U.S. if you are planning to attend CSUCI.

Visa appointment wait times and processing times vary by country and Consulate. For detailed country by country information on visa wait times, please visit the U.S. Department of State Visa Wait Times website.

For more information on F-1 student visas, including application procedures, please visit the U.S. Department of State on Student Visas website. Please read the "Pre-Arrival" section in the Welcome Packet on the Center for International Affairs website under International Students and Scholars for more information you will need before and during your arrival.

Student Testimonial

“I joined the MS biotechnology program last year and my learning experience with CSUCI has been well beyond my expectations. I am much more confident about my future in the biotech industry now. Throughout the program I learned so many new things as the courses are paced for optimal learning. I think CSUCI’s MS biotechnology program has a phenomenal cadre of instructors who are not only talented, but also have a ‘real life’ background of working in the biotech industry for years. I now have a valuable research experience through a number of projects that I have been doing here and my resume has never looked better! I believe that between the quality of learning and the great instructors, CSUCI has the best opportunity for me to find a job in the biotech industry.”
